Week 16 Appointment
Things seem to be progressing well, and are feeling (and looking) more real each day. The morning sickness is over, there is clearly an abdominal "bump," and Mom and Dad heard a clear heartbeat today at the doctor's office. Could be our last visit to the GP if we can successfully set up a connection to the midwife we're thinking of. BC is one of three provinces in Canada that will cover prenatal care with the choice of either a GP/OB or midwife. The postpartum benefits of a midwife, plus not having to sit in a germ-infested waiting room for bi-weekly doctors appointments in winter, have swayed our interest towards the midwife option.

I would definitely go with the midwife. According to the 'Heritage Moments' commercial, they will trudge miles in the deep snow whilst barefoot just to get to you in time. Of course, that was in the wilds of Quebec...
Hello Bif, Well, your step-granny- to-be (sgtb) is impressed by the wisdom of your folks. While a doctor can be handy if you decide to do a dramatic sort of entry into the world (don't do it!you will upstage uncle Derek just by being born at the right time in the right place!!) a midwife can take care of your mom, dad and you in a more generous, nurturing way. I like that idea!
I am also looking forward to seeing the lump you are making in your mom's middle when we come next week.

Hey! I remember hearing that first heartbeat (for our baby that is) - it was pretty magical. That was the first thing that really made it all seem real. (It had been slightly abstract until that point, at least for me).
